This Privacy Policy explains how Wildtracks ("we", "us", the "app") collects, uses, and protects your personal data when you use the Wildtracks mobile application. Birdbrain AS, a company registered in Norway (organisasjonsnummer 938 182 574), is the data controller for the personal data described below. 1. Data we collect
- Account information. Your email address, and optionally your first name, last name, profile photo, and preferred language. Authentication is handled by Supabase, which assigns you a unique account identifier.
- Dog profiles. Information you choose to add about your dogs, such as name, breed, date of birth, and photos.
- Location data. Precise GPS location used to record your walking and tracking routes. With your permission, location is collected in the background so your route keeps recording while the screen is off or the app is not in the foreground. Routes, sessions, and related events are stored in your account.
- Photos. Images you upload (for example, dog or track photos).
- Push notification tokens. A device token used to deliver push notifications via Firebase Cloud Messaging.
- Social activity. Friendships and activity feed entries you generate within the app.
- Technical and usage data. Basic technical information needed to operate the service, such as app version and aggregated usage analytics.
- Error and crash diagnostics. When the app or our servers hit an error we record what went wrong — the error itself, the app version, device and operating system, and an account identifier so we can tell whether a fault affects one account or everyone. These reports do not include your email address or the contents of your tracks.
2. How we use your data
- To provide the core features of the app — recording and displaying your tracks, managing dog profiles, and sharing activity with friends.
- To authenticate you and keep your account secure.
- To send push notifications and service emails you have opted into or that are necessary to operate the service.
- To maintain, troubleshoot, and improve the app.
3. Legal basis (GDPR)
Where the EU/EEA General Data Protection Regulation applies, we process your data on the basis of: performance of our contract with you (providing the app's features); your consent (for example, background location and push notifications, which you can withdraw at any time in your device settings); and our legitimate interests in operating and improving the service.
4. Sharing and processors
We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with service providers that process it on our behalf:
- Supabase — authentication and account management.
- Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google) — delivery of push notifications.
- Mapbox — map rendering. Map interactions may involve sending coordinates to Mapbox to display maps.
- Sentry — error and crash monitoring. Receives error diagnostics together with an account identifier, but not your email address or track data.
- Our hosting and database provider — secure storage of your data.
- Our email delivery provider — sending transactional emails.
Some providers may process data outside your country; where required, appropriate safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) are in place.
5. Data retention
We keep your personal data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymise the associated personal data, except where we are required to retain certain information to comply with legal obligations.
6. Your rights
Depending on your location, you have the right to access, correct, export, restrict, or delete your personal data, and to object to certain processing or withdraw consent. You can exercise these rights — including account and data deletion — by contacting us at support@wildtracks.app. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority (in Norway, Datatilsynet).
7. Children
Wildtracks is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the minimum age required in your country), and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.
8. Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encrypted transport (HTTPS) and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
